I am a Brooklyn native who grew up in Park Slope and returned as an adult, an experience that shaped my vision for the kind of practice these communities deserve: affordable, accessible, and staffed with clinicians who reflect the diversity of the people they serve.
I earned my MSW from NYU and spent my early career in non-profit agencies and community clinics across New York City before launching my private practice in 2018. In 2021, I expanded into Rubin Therapy LCSW, P.C., a group practice serving individuals, couples, and young adults in person and virtually across New York and New Jersey. I hold a postgraduate certificate in Family and Couples Therapy, and additional trainings in Sex Therapy through the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP).
My approach is humanistic and strength-based, integrating mindfulness and concrete behavioral tools. I believe that when we can honestly examine our past, we're better equipped to live fully in the present — and to shape what comes next. I also believe therapy works best when it's collaborative, so I work hard to build a relationship with clients that feels warm, open, and genuinely useful.
My training is contemporary and relational, with a specialization in family and couples treatment. Whatever you bring in, we look at it in context: your relationships, your history, your goals, and the patterns running underneath all three.
Sessions with me are collaborative and direct. We'll name what's actually happening, get curious about where it comes from, and work toward the connection and life you're trying to build.
Emily completed her undergraduate studies at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2007 and went on to complete her MSW at New York University's Silver School of Social Work in 2011. She spent her early career in non-profit agencies and community clinics across New York City, where she worked with a wide range of individuals and families.
She pursued advanced clinical training through the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, completing their Family and Couples program, along with additional training in sex therapy. Her continued education spans Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and specialized work on ADHD-impacted relationships through the EFT lens. She has also completed the NASW-NJ Clinical Supervision Course, reflecting her commitment to mentoring and supporting other clinicians.
